5 Summer Beach Reads

Since it’s that time of year, I thought I would post some of my favorite summer beach reads. To me, a beach read is something that is fun, easy to read, and relatively fast. It’s meant to be relaxing and entertaining. So, I’ve scoured my bookcases for my top 5 favorite beach reads.
Pride and Prejudice
A classic and one of my favorite books. It’s like the ultimate love story. You have the intelligent and sassy Elizabeth Bennett and the prideful and grumpy Fitzwilliam Darcy. Shenanigans ensue, and everyone else attempts to cover up their rudeness with politeness. It’s a satisfying and funny book with a lot going on underneath the surface.
Hyperbole and a Half
In her collection of comics, Allie Brosh manages to address some intense issues, like depression, while also being hilarious. Her somewhat basic art style is perfect for her stories which often revolve around her childhood and her dogs. Personally, my favorite stories are the ones about her dogs. It’s a fast read and great for a beach day.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
This is a book that shows like Family Guy joke about a lot, but it’s worth reading. It was one of my favorite books as a teenager, and it deals with some heavy issues while being funny and inspiring. It’s about four teenage girls who find a magical pair of pants that fits all of them. They pass them around for the summer, and it keeps them connected as they deal with all of their summer problems. It is the first book in the Sisterhood series.
The Hobbit
You’ve probably heard of this one! This book follows Bilbo Baggins as he goes on a journey with 13 dwarves to save their home from an evil dragon. It’s a classic, and it’s an easy read for a Tolkien book. It has plenty of adventure to keep you entertained as you lounge in your beach chair. It’s the prequel to the Lord of the Rings series.
The Princess Diaries
If you like the movie, you’ll like the book. Just be prepared because they aren’t similar beyond the basic plot of teenage girl finds out she’s a princess. First of all, the dad is alive and the grandmother is horrid. The transition from teenage girl to princess isn’t nearly as drastic, and some serious drama happens. It is the first book in The Princess Diaries series, one of my favorite series as a teenager.
